Brilliant Book Awards author visit to John Port School

Writer: Dan WalkerDan Walker

Despite the #BeastFromTheEast (or #Snowmageddon), as the ever-creative online communities have taken to calling the (minor!) snowstorms sweeping the country, we managed to successfully navigate our way to John Port School for the Sky Thieves appearance today. The event was organised by the team at Inspire Education Library Service (ELS) and supported by The Bookcase at Lowdham, (great shop if you’re ever in the area,) as part of the Brilliant Book Awards 2018, for which “Sky Thieves” has been shortlisted.

The event at John Port brought together a few secondary schools from the area, including Chilwell School, Becket School, Ockbrook School and more. The kids, many of whom had already read the books, seemed eager to learn more about Zoya and the gang and my inspirations for writing the series. After the talk, we managed to fit in a Q&A session, and a photo-filled book signing.

Below are some pictures:

All set for the talk. Love the “Sky Thieves” and “Desert Thieves” bunting!

Unfortunately, the afternoon half of the event, at Magnus Church of England Academy, had to be cancelled due to the howls of this #BeastFromTheEast. Plan to get back there another time, though. More updates to follow.
