Today my wife Dom and I attended the launch event for the Brilliant Book Award 2018 organised by the wonderful team at Inspire Education Library Service and supported by The Bookcase at Lowdham.
The event was hosted at Mansfield Library, and brought together kids from 10 different schools across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The children were given the opportunity to meet the shortlisted authors, have the copies of their books signed and listen to speeches from the writers. Here’s me doing mine.
I’m chuffed about "Sky Thieves" being shortlisted for the award alongside some other great children’s authors (Ross Mckenzie, Joanna Nadin, Kim Slater, Ross Welford and Danny Weston). Here’s the team photo we managed to snag before the main event (from left to right: Val and Rachel from the Nottinghamshire ELS, Paula Rawsthorne (who brilliantly set the scene), me, Chris and Kim).
As part of the event the winner of the 2017 Award, Christopher Edge, gave a great talk based around his "The Many Worlds of Albie Bright". Below is a picture of Chris receiving the award from Kim.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be visiting some of the participating schools to talk about my inspirations for writing "Sky Thieves" and the journey of becoming a published author. More updates soon!
